BACKGROUND: Implementation of various activities (in some cases entirely new curricula) with the aim to increase integration in medical educations has been preformed, yet there are no evidence based guidelines on this field.
AIMS: To develop a coding sheet for interpreting results from studies on integration of theory and practise in undergraduate medical school. To test this coding sheet and evaluate it’s function.
METHOD: A literature search will be conducted and a representative sample of the studies will be reviewed to make out key characteristics of the studies. In accordance with these samples a model for systematically interpreting results will be constructed. This model will then be tested on another sample of studies.
ANTICIPATED RESULTS: I anticipate that the nature of the reviewed studies will be heterogeneous and demand a broad spectrum of interpreted outcomes. The review should give guidance for design of studies on the field and also clarify boundaries of methods chosen in the studies. Since student evaluation is a fairly blunt measure and teachers who do research on medical evaluation are more probable to be invested and competent most studied initiatives are likely to be appreciated. Still some differences in success should be detectable and from my experience those initiatives where theoretical subjects are taught in a clinical environment should show to be successful.
Hej!
